Empowering women to improve their quality of life through a program of individualized support and transitional housing.In 2000, the year of jubilee, a group of people from various churches and community groups met to discuss a 'Jubilee' project. The group felt that one of the most pressing needs within the community of Orillia was for transitional housing for homeless women and their children.In March 2001, Couchiching Jubilee House was Incorporated in the Province of Ontario, and shortly afterwards obtained Federal Charitable status. That year, CJH opened the doors to the transitional house with 4 self-contained, fully furnished apartments. CARC is a non-profit organization registered in Ontario has federal charitable status, and as such is permitted to provide provide a receipt for donations for income tax purposes.Established in 2006 by Evergreen in partnership with the local community, the Emmett Avenue Community Garden is the only community space for growing food in Eglinton Flats park at the intersection of Jane-Eglinton in Weston-Mount Dennis. The garden grew to 18 members in 2007, 32 in 2008, and in 2009 celebrated its third full growing season.
