In the Beginning: There was bush! In 1864, the first settlers came to Haliburton and settled on this piece of land first because of the river. A series of mills were on the site over the years until W.O. Bailey constructed a veneer mill in 1945. His daughter Lois married Wm. (Bill) Emmerson in 1953 and the Emmerson Lumber legacy was started in 1957. The Growing Years: We have complimentary books entitled The Mill Reserve that gives a history of the company. From humble beginnings, the company now employs 36 people and has a Rent-All department. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2007 and we had a replica of our first delivery truck on display. Where we're going:With a keen interest in keeping abreast of building practice changes and technology, we have been able to keep to the forefront in the building business. Thank you for taking interest in our business. We are proudly a member of the Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. co-operative. All of our 280 stores across Canada are independently owned and operated. We are also a member of the Haliburton County Homebuilders Association. The Hchba is a voluntary organization which represents the local housing industry. Established in 1991, the Hchba groups together builders, renovators, suppliers, trade contractors, landscapers, excavators, and other professionals whose goal is to ensure the long term success of the local residential construction industry. The Haliburton County Home Builders Association is a strong, positive representative body for the housing industry which is recognized by consumers and government agencies. It is supported at the local, provincial and national levels with affiliations with the Ontario and Canadian Home Builders' Associations.
