Our group is Local 1230 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. CUPE 1230 represents non-managerial library workers in the central library system, who report to the Chief Librarian. Our union consists of approximately 162 full-time and 250 part-time members.CUPE 1230 is just one local in the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Canada's largest union whose membership exceeds 500,000 workers. CUPE represents workers in health care, education, municipalities, libraries, universities, social services, public utilities, transportation, emergency services and airlines.

The Durham Branch is part of the Ontario Genealogical Society. Our branch started in 1982 and currently has nearly 300 members. We are located in Eastern part of the GTA, just an hour east of Toronto. Our branch takes in the following eight municipalities: City of Pickering, Town of Whitby, City of Oshawa, Muncipality of Clarington, Town of Scugog, Town of Uxbridge, Town of Brock.Our branch goal is to encourage, bring together and assist those interested in the pursuit of genealogy and family history in the Durham Region. Our members focus on preserving information that will be useful for anyone doing research on ancestors from the Durham Region. We also provide a sound base for researchers living here who have ancestors in other areas around the world.
