Thorhild & District Municipal Library. Grand Opening of the Library occurred January 21, 1984 upstairs at the Arena. Early activities included author visits and Christmas parties, activities that continue today. By 1986, memberships had risen to 54 adult and 23 family memberships.The Village of Thorhild would build a new office complex the following year and the library moved to the location where it is today. The board began looking into creating a Friends of the Library Society to act as fund-raisers for library projects in early 1993.
The Barrhead Library started as a community library in December of 1950 with a $200 donation from the estate of homesteader Jack McKerracher and additional government grants. Over the years the library has been moved to various locations, always within the school grounds.
The Slave Lake Municipal Library opened in 1974 and was originally housed in the local high school. In 1981 the library was able to separate from the school and open in its own space. That space was small and required patrons to climb a steep set of stairs.
Sangudo Public Library is a member of Yellowhead Regional Library. Sangudo Public Library is also a member of The Regional Automation Consortium (TRAC) and of The Alberta Library (TAL). Our participation in The Alberta Library gives our patrons access to 15 million items in over 230 Alberta libraries.
