We work primarily with wood origin products and in the last 30 years we’ve created thousands of products out of our backyard studio. It’s very personal. It’s frenetic. Saks Fifth Avenue was the brainchild of Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel, who operated independent retail stores on New York's 34th Street at Herald Square in the early 1900s. Their dream was to construct a unique specialty store that would become synonymous with fashionable, gracious living.The combined financial input of these great merchant families led to the purchase of a site between 49th and 50th Streets on upper Fifth Avenue, then jointly occupied by the Democratic Club and the Buckingham Hotel. With the opening of its founders' ''dream store'' on September 15, 1924, Saks Fifth Avenue became the first large retail operation to locate in what was then primarily a residential district. Our parents started the business in Canada in 1976 with the opening of their first store in the heart of Chinatown, Vancouver, Canada. Eventually they opened a few more stores outside Chinatown. It was a successful 20 years of brick and mortar retailing endeavour. In 1996 they decided to close the stores and pursue other interests. But with all the inventory we decided to give it another try. So in 2001 Potters Wheel Gift Shop opened its doors on Pender Street, Chinatown. We operated at this location for 12 years. With changing times and economic circumstances and the advent of the internet we again reached a crossroad and decided to shut down the retail store and set up a virtual store.
