It's an unique program to involve parents & children learning together at the preschool level. Learning through play (especially outdoor in the woods) is the highlight for my child. I attend parent education workshops that constantly help and guide me in my parenting at home and in the preschool. Easter Egg hunt is so much fun - we found this wonderful place through this community event led by the alumni parents! Thanks Ms. Lynda for guiding my child to be creative, confident & active!Read more
Through the use of appropriate guidance, Petits Genies offers a safe, enriching and educational environment for children. The program is based on Reggio Emilia and Montessori. We offer most of our curriculum in French. We emphasize the education of the whole child, spiritual, mental, physical, and psychological. This education is based on the principle of respect, responsibility and community.
We have a schedule for each day; however we believe that being flexible with kids will help them to be more creative and productive. Our activities are mostly based on their interest.
The education offered is based on the needs of children, believing that this will lead to meeting the needs of society. We are considered as co-learner, collaborator and then instructor. Most of the materials are academically oriented; however, we do not force a child to participate in an activity that he or she is not interested.
We believe children are entitled to environments and opportunities that foster positive growth while being treated with dignity and respect. We recognize that play is a child's response to life and the medium through which he/she learns, and we therefore employ this principle in our day-to-day activities.

Montessori classrooms have a 3 year age range. Preschool classes consist of 3, 4, & 5 year-old children while our full day program has 4, 5, & 6 year-old children. Each classroom is furnished with beautiful, age-appropriate educational materials to which children are naturally drawn. The children receive individual lessons from teachers on how to work with these materials.
In the early 1950s, after World War II, many Europeans immigrated to Canada. They came by boat and train, often with large families, determined to establish themselves in this new land of 'unlimited' opportunities. Among these immigrants were people from The Netherlands. A good number of them were Christians from the Reformed tradition and they were eager to start a church in their new homeland as soon as possible.
Operated by the SFU Childcare Society, it is the first childcare centre in the world to integrate the most advanced environmental design and the renowned Reggio Emilia childcare program. SFU Faculty of Education faculty and student researchers also use the setting to investigate optimal ways to provoke and sustain learning in Reggio-inspired classrooms and how this holistic approach effects social development and learning interactions within the classroom community. The childcare facility itself becomes a laboratory for self-directed learning.
