Moving Images Distribution's roots lie within the independent film and video community. During the 1970s, a group of talented filmmakers began developing ways to increase the profile of their work. Their vision resulted in the formation of Canadian Filmmakers Distribution West--an organization that became Moving Images Distribution in 1994 and launched its website and online catalogue in 1995.

Design and Operations Coordinator William Fritzberg is a new addition to Moving Images. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of British Columbia and has worked in the film and video industry in Vancouver since 2008. His skills cover a large range from video editing and shooting to graphic design and new media. Notable roles include cinematographer of Woman Waiting (dir. Antoine Bourges) -- which premiered at Berlinale, TIFF and SXSW, and cinematogapher/co-producer of Backbone: Vancouver Experimental Cinema (dir. Richard Martin). William is passionate about independent media and hopes to watch every film in the Moving Images collection. Sylvia Jonescu LisitzaExecutive Director / Audience DevelopmentSylvia has been Executive Director since May 1987. Her background includes marketing and arts administration, film editing and a decade of work as photographer, culminating in a solo exhibition as well as several group shows. She helped found The Photographers Gallery and curated an exhibition of photographs by pioneer photographer Mattie Gunterman.
