A board of directors was elected and their first concern was finding a suitable place to hold their first annual Fall Fair.A local gentleman allowed the board to use his property free of charge in exchange for making some repairs to the building to make it suitable for the livestock animals and exhibits.In 1912, the Agricultural Society of Massey purchased 8 acres of estate land and for the past one hundred years, this is where the Massey Fair has been held, drawing crowds from across northern and central Ontario.
Markdale Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned local business people that formalized a business development organization in the village. Some advantages of being a chamber member are the ability to network at monthly meetings and social and community and business development. Also as the Chamber is where many newcomers and visitors go for information on business and services, we recommend or refer only Chamber Members. There are also discounts available on home and auto insurance as well as Health and Drug Benefits, and for TD Merchants on Visa/MC/Interact. The chamber is the heart of the village to organize many activities, which encourage shop local initiatives. We are always sponsoring business development seminars and networking socials, best word of mouth marketing.
