As a psychologist, I am committed to helping people live their lives in ways that support and facilitate their growth at various levels including personal, relational, social and spiritual.
Colwood Family Counselling is a home based counselling business serving the Western Community of Victoria, BC. I am a Registered Social Worker, approved for Private Practice through the Board of Registration for Social Workers in B.C. My receipts can be submitted through most extended health care plans and for income tax purposes. I specialize in Solution Oriented Brief Therapy which helps clients deal with their personal, relatiionship and family issues in a timely manner. My expertize include stress management, loss and bereavement, communication, child and family problems. My practice also includes First Nations people living off reserve, custody and family issues and Employee Assistance . I also facilitate Life Moves On, a support program for people left behind by suicide.
My basis for counselling practice is the person-centered approach based on concepts from Carl Rogers and humanistic psychology. Since each person is unique, I use an integrated approach to counselling, incorporating techniques from various other models of counselling as seem appropriate. Counselling is not a one size fits all encounter. For that reason, I often borrow techniques from various models, such as: Person Centered Solution Focused Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Gestalt Family Systems In counselling, you never have to do anything you do not want to do. I may suggest or invite you to try something that feels different, and you always have the right to say yes or no. We proceed at your pace, not mine. Some people come to counselling eager to make changes; others need time to work through their feelings and get more clarity before they are ready to make a change in their life. Affordable counselling should be available to everyone. For this reason, I offer a sliding scale fee for those of limited means, as well as shorter or less frequent appointments. Please feel free to discuss my fees on the phone, by email, or at our first session. See appointments and fees for more information.
