The first Francophone association with the Northwest Territories was born in 1978 in Yellowknife under the name of ''NWT Francophone Cultural Association'' (FTCA). At that time, the priority for members is the installation of an antenna to pick CBC. Francophones in other regions of the Northwest Territories are becoming interested in the activities of Yellowknife and offers OGTI gradually services to all Territories. It was at the initiative of members OGTI a new association was created to serve the capital.
