Meet the owner

Nestled in the heart of Villeray, Mesón, a Spanish-inspired restaurant, opened in 2014. However, the story of this restaurant began years earlier.

"We wanted to offer a neighbourhood restaurant to the people of Villeray, to thank them for making us feel so welcome when we opened Tapeo," says Victor Afonso and Sébastien Muniz, two childhood friends who in 2004, opened the tapas bar Tapeo, located two blocks away from Mesón.

With the growing success of their first restaurant, there was no reason for Victor and Sebastian to change this winning formula. The duo then became a quartet with the addition of chef Marie-Fleur St-Pierre, already in charge of the ovens at Tapeo, and Pedro Oliveira, one of the mainstays of the tapas bar.

But by opening Mesón, the four partners faced an interesting challenge: "The regulars at Tapeo tended to compare the two restaurants," says Victor.
