Best meal I've ever had in Ottawa, all of our food was excellent and the service was wonderful. Our waitress was Ashley and she was amazing. Great atmosphere, lots of tv's as well. And the bathrooms are beautiful! (and spotless) We will definitely be back, highly recommend!

I recently decided to go to Pubwells Restaurant after being recommended a few times by good friends of mine, and to be honest, I wish I went sooner!
The first time I went was for breakfast, which was absolutely the best breakfast i've had at any restaurant to date. I had the french toast with fresh fruit (server told me the bread is homemade fresh weekly and I could tell!) and my husband had the salmon egg benedict which was equally fantastic.
Since visiting for breakfast, I've been a handful of times, for lunch and dinner. Enjoying the variety of pizzas, daily specials and on tap beer. There's a new soup daily (also homemade) and i've become especially attached to the calzone specials.
The service is friendly and the environment is just right. The hockey games brings in a crowd and so does chilly weekend mornings.
Overall this place is by far my favorite restaurant in Ottawa.

Nice spot. Upscale pub.
They brew beer on the premises but on that day the type of lager home brew I tried was flat. I sent it back after a couple sips. the waitress was very courteous about it. .
The 5-7pm 1/2 price appetizer special was awesome.

We had a very satisfying brunch. We had Berryman's classic and pancakes with freshly squizzed orange juice. They use organic eggs and locally sourced freshly made sausages. I also liked a fruit serving that it comes with. We'll be back for pizza.

Meet Me at the Oak. Why do we call the Oak royal? It all has to do with our love of history and a keen awareness of our heritage. The story goes as follows...Charles II, whose father Charles I had been beheaded by Oliver Cromwell, became a fugitive whilst running from Cromwell's army after being soundly defeated at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. He took refuge with a Major Carlis in Boscobel Woods where the two hid in an oak tree to get a good view of the approaching army. They remained all day, the King sleeping from time to time, his head on a cushion on Carlis' lap. Cromwell's troops passed under the tree but did not see him or his companion. After Cromwell died the good people of England decided a monarchy was not such a bad idea after all. Charles II was restored to the British crown. In celebration, Charles' birthday, May 29, was designated "Oak Day" in remembrance of his escape from Cromwell in 1651.
