Tapas bars have become a trend in Toronto, but Mezzetta has been offering its unique take on the form for almost a quarter-century now. Tapas is a Spanish dining format featuring a wide variety of appetizers and snacks. But the Spanish influence is only one aspect of Mezzetta.
“Tapas is a nineteenth century concept,” explains Safa Nematy, who has owned and operated Mezzetta on the St. Clair West strip since 1991. “And ‘Mezze’ in Greek, Turkish and Arabic literally means a small appetizer.”
This Mediterranean tapas bar on St. Clair West serves enticing Middle Eastern small plates that are designed for sharing. The menu features 40 appetizer-sized mezze dishes and diners are encouraged to order a wide variety of meat and vegetarian dishes and explore all of the different flavours. The houmous is a must-try chickpea dish made with tahini and lemon and a secret blend of spices. Get more bang for your buck on Tuesdays when every mezze dish is just $2.75.
