Top Notch

Stopped in after my wife found it on the 'net. I had the Chicken Pad Thai which is by far the tastiest dinner I've eaten in a long time. Filling too, almost needed a doggie bag. This is my first review, which I felt compelled to write seeing a negative one here. Don't believe it, this place is clean, nicely decorated and you can't beat the food. We chatted with the owner for about 15 minutes. Polite to a fault. I'm definitely coming back. And it's 2.5 hours away.

byle soup?

Wow!!! Super awful !!! Beautiful atmosphere though... That soup tasted like the inside of a goats stomach!! Or how I imagine that would taste!!! And the Pad Tai was Bad Tai!!!

Great food at a great price

I have been to Chaopaya three times now and would not hesitate to go back. The Coconut soup is to die for. Not too heavy on the coconut. The only problem is choosing which starter to go with. The spring rolls are fresh and not greasy like in some other places. Although the chicken pieces in the Emerald Chicken are a little overdone, the sauce more than makes up for it. Very delicate flavour and lots of it. The decor is so much more authentic than any other Thai place I have been to. And it has so many little areas where you can have a quiet dinner. The homemade ice cream for dessert comes in two flavours, mango and coconut. Both are delicious. Ask for a scoop of each instead of getting two scoops of one flavour. Amazing.

Bad Thai

Musty carpet smell walking through the door. Seated in the dark front porch adjacent to the only other occupied table in the restaurant. Spread people out a bit on a Friday night. Decor is dated 80's Thai style in need of a dusting. Server barely spoke. Never checked on us once. The food was horrible. Sample apps not good. Satay was just weird. Sauce did not match anything and was just crushed Spring rolls were frozen groc. store kind. Pad Thai was gloopy and oily. Chicken tasteless. Pineapple Curry Shrimp was a watery soup. This may have been good once but it is no good now. I just could not eat that gloopy mess, still hungry and we blew 65 bucks.

I was really excited after I saw so many positive reviews. That'll teach me to have expectations. I got the green emerald curry which they promised to make spicy for me. I excepted a large heaping plate of rice with thick luscious coconut curry. What I received was some pieces of chicken in this watery soup with some veggies. Rice had to be purchased separately. My boyfriend had the pineapple chicken fried rice. It was bland and overall unimpressive with frozen vegetables out of a bag and tasteless chicken breast chunks. I make better friend rice at home - it was definitely not worth the 14 dollars it cost. I am never going back. When I think Thai food, I think flavour and spice. Not boring and bland. I think I can make better curry at home with the thai curry powder packages from the grocery story!!!

New Favourite Restaurant!

This Restaurant was awesome! From the moment you enter - the atmosphere, service, smells, decor, and most importantly, the food was amazing. We will most definately be returning - I am so happy to have found this gem. We live so close by, we are so lucky to be able to walk to such an awesome restaurant. I can't wait to try everything on the menu...

Authentic Thai

Excellent food. Chicken pad thai is awesome. You get the sweet, salty and sour. Sometimes the noodles are not all the way cooked but the sauce is so good. The curry is delicious aswell.

AMAZING FOOD

Was great now it's just average

We had been to the chaopaya before, and love it, on our second visit we had such a different experience, the food wasn't as good and the prices were outrages, when I asked for the dish we had the first time they did no longer serve it , I wounder it the owners have changed? We were just disappointed with the hole experience, maybe we put our expectation to high...

We love this reaturant, we have lived in Barrie...

We love this reaturant, we have lived in Barrie for 8 years and heve always seen this place but never went in it, finally we did go in, and we have gone there at least once a month ever since. we love the people, they are very polite, fast service, clean and they give you alot on the plate. I would recommend the Golden Curry chicken (very spicy), but delicious.

We stumbled upon this restaurant and loved it! My husband and I lived in Bangkok for one month and felt right at home with the wonderful family running this business. The atmosphere was great. Nice patio overlooking the bay. Fast, friendly service. Food was delicious and priced well too! Will recommend to all my friends and family.

A friend reccomended us to this restaurant. Thanks to this friend, we have a wonderful meal and time at the restaurant. Our party also completely agree with the friend that this is the best Thai restaurant in Barrie! Totolly amazing dishes, beautiful decor and wonderful Thai music. Starters: Shrimp rolls, Thai spring rolls, Shrimp chips, Mango Salad, Coconut soups and Lemon Prawn soups. Main course: Golden curry, Dry beef curry, Pineapple shrimp curry, Tofu cashewnuts, Duck with ginger and Spicy fish (to be on the menu). This spicy fish is.. WOW...out of this world. Dessert: Banana fritters and ice cream, Sticky rice and ice cream and Sticky rice with banana.

Meh.

My boyfriend went out for dinner one night and decided to try this place out. I had Shrimp curry soup which was a very small amount for like 11 dollars. My boyfriend had crab fried rice which was okay for 12 dollars. The service was pretty slow. It was a family that was running it. Oh we also had spring rolls that tasted like the ones you get in the party pack at m&m meat shops. :S

Wow..! Amazing food and beautiful view of the bay

We picked two dishes from the twenty choices in Barri-licious menu... The portion is nice. The three appetizers which was part of the 3 course meal, were very tasty and very fresh. As for main course, was totally out of this world, and the Banana rice cake was awsome. You can't go worng with this restaurant, tasty food and great view of the bay. It is the only restaurant in Barrie that you can enjoy the food and the scenery.

Best Thai Restaurant with Gorgeous Patio & View

The food is very fresh and very authentic. The emerald chicken was oily, but I just skimmed the oil off the top and it was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered Cashew Chicken and wasn't oily at all. The mango salad was very fresh as was everything else. This is my 3rd time going and it's one of my favourite restaurants in Barrie. There are very few "mild" items on the menu, most have a bit of kick to them, so a side order of rice works nicely. I had enough leftover for an entire lunch for tomorrow! Nice portions. The highlight is the patio, it has a beautiful view over lake Simcoe. With lots of prime seating. Gorgeous! The best patio view available in Barrie!

Your Taste Buds Will Thank You!

The decor and atmosphere of this family-run business in a beautiful Victorian house is superb! Art and music from Thailand surround you in a peaceful atmosphere. Service is very polite. On our first visit the chicken in the Satay was the tastiest I have ever eaten! The Satay sauce was not as creamy as I am used to, but was delicious! The Mee Krob (crispy noodles) were just a bit too sweet. The Pad Thai noodles were just a bit too sour - perhaps too much fish sauce? But the Golden Chicken Curry was wonderful! They did not have this last dish on their menu yet, but they knew exactly what I wanted when I asked for ''Ka Ree Kai''. We just had to stop by again for some Thai Tea on a Saturday afternoon. The outside deck is perfect for sipping Thai Tea on a sunny day and viewing Lake Simcoe! The third visit, again the chicken in the Satay was perfect! The Glass Noodle Chicken was good. The Red Beef Curry was delicious! And the Tofu Cashew Nuts was to die for! There just wasn't enough of this last dish it was so wonderful! I will eat there every time I visit Barrie!

By far my favourite restaurant in Barrie! The interior decor is beautiful and makes for a relaxed atmosphere. The service is wonderful! All our food cames out hot and on time and our glasses were never empty! The food was perfect and as close to authentic Thai as I can imagine there is! I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious, healthy food!
